Advent Begins with Hope

Celebrate Advent 2024

We have much to celebrate as we approach Advent and Christmas this year. We have come through a season of adjustment, leaving the United Methodist Church and joining the Global Methodist Church a year ago. Our decision was confirmed when the UMC met in Charlotte and changed the denomination's official stance on sexual ethics, changing its theological stance.  The Global Methodist Church later met in Costa Rica for a Convening General Conference, amending and approving our first official Book of Discipline.  We are still finding our feet as a denomination, but we are doing so under the firm guidance of the Holy Spirit.

We are now living in Hope, the first of the four themes of Advent. We mark each theme by lighting an advent candle and reading a biblical passage. This year and in years to come, we will celebrate this with new liquid-filled advent candles purchased by the choir through the generous gift of Joan Bowman given to the choir in the past.

This first Sunday in Advent marks a new year in the church's life and a new year filled with Hope, Peace, Joy, and Love in the Name of our Lord and King Jesus Christ.

Peace,

Pastor Burt
