Proverbs 3:5 (NIV)
Trust in the Lord with all your heart
and lean not on your own understanding;
There’s a lot I don’t understand. I’m sure that’s a common feeling. If we think about how immense this world is, how many people live on this planet, how the fusing of two tiny cells produces each one of those lives … it’s mind-boggling! A simple Google search showed me that in the year I was born, the world population was 4.07 billion people and in 2021 (the most recent year’s data for this article) it was 7.88 billion. A Wikipedia article approximates that we reached 8 billion on November 15, 2022 (just about a year ago). EIGHT BILLION! So we have doubled the population of the world in a mere forty-### years. Let’s not discuss how many birds and how many bees there are in the world ….
I digress. Such immense numbers as the world human population are just one thing I cannot wrap my mind around. What about the number of songs ever written? What about how God created and set this world into motion? What about the depth of my mother’s love for me and how exponentially more is God’s love for me … for ALL of us?! We can never understand or fully comprehend these things. Only God has the true answer.
This is the mystery of our faith in Him. There are many things we just have to trust knowing that God’s design and plan for us are perfect in His time, in His way.
Why did my friend get cancer at fifty years old? God I trust You.
Why was I not chosen on the project I applied for last month? God I trust You.
How am I so blessed to live where I do, with these people whom I love? God I trust You.
Why are wars still raging in spite of decades and centuries of lessons learned? God I trust You.
Let’s all trust in Him more each day. Don’t stress … God’s got this!
Peace,
Matt
