It is Tuesday afternoon, November 5th, the first Tuesday in November in the year of our Lord Two Thousand and twenty-four. What I write now will be published late Wednesday morning. Whether or not who will be the next President of the United States has been decided or not I do know who the King of Heaven is, and that is Jesus Christ. Regardless of who sits in the Oval Office, the Prince of Peace sits on the Eternal Throne.
You may be pleased or displeased by the results of the US elections, but your ultimate fate does not depend upon such things, no matter how important the candidates, the news media, or your friends tell you how important or historic it is. Interestingly, I paused writing after the preceding period because I saw my phone light up with a text telling me that our lives depended upon me going to vote for a particular candidate. So that you know, I voted early, I wish the campaigns did, and I could opt out of all the text I get from both sides.
One thing I did not vote on was who created the universe, who loves me, who cares about me, who is willing to sacrifice for me, and who will decide my ultimate fate. The one who does all this is Jesus Christ. He is the only one to whom I will bow, who is worthy of my praise, and in whom I place my hope of salvation.
So regardless of whether your candidate won, lift up your head and look east; look to Jerusalem, where He sacrificed Himself for you, the righteous for the unrighteous so that you might live beyond your years on earth with Him throughout all eternity. And when you do, hope! Hope in the name of the one who has defeated death. Hope in the one who keeps His promises and works out all things for the good of those called by His name. Do not allow the hope, the joy, the peace of your heart, and the love you feel to be determined by an election but by the one who so loved you that He gave His life that you should have all these things in abundance.
So I will see you Sunday, and I hope to see a smile on your face not because of who the President-Elect is but because the Eternal King is the Lord of your life.
Peace,
Pastor Burt
