All Saints Sunday is this Sunday, November 3rd! FYI, daylight saving time also ends at 2 a.m. this Sunday. All Saints Sunday gives us the opportunity to celebrate the communion of Saints, described for us in scripture as a Holy Fellowship of those who have died in Christ. Some of the relevant scriptures are Romans 8:38-39, 12:4-13, 1 Corinthians 12:12-27, & Hebrews 12:1-3. Revelation 7:9-17
These Passages and others point to a great multitude of the Saints in Heaven who are cheering for us, living in Christ and cooperating with the Holy Spirit to be free from sin and live that eternal life now.
Each All Saints Day, we honor the lives of those who have died in faith and are now numbered among the Saints. One of my favorite ways of saying this is that we celebrate those who have transferred their membership from the Church Militant to the Church Triumphant. The church militant refers to those who are still fighting the good fight for Christ in this world, and the Church Triumphant those who have finished their course in faith.
This year, we will name six from our flock who have made this transition in the last year. You may have family or friends from other places who have died in the past year or in previous years. We will have a seventh candle and a time of silence for you to lift these names before God as we light this candle. Families are encouraged to pick up the candle that was lit for their loved ones following the service as a gift from the church.
FYI: All Saints Day is always November 1st and is largely celebrated on the first Sunday in November in churches, but that is why Halloween or “All Hallows Eve” is the 31st of October
Please use the list below for prayer this week, and if we have missed anyone for any reason, please call Pastor Burt ASAP!
