What counts? I have been dieting after receiving some concerning A1c numbers and the talk of the “D” word. I went on a diet and dropped some weight and got the A1c numbers down. Now I am still working on the weight number and on lower blood sugar levels. Those numbers count toward good health.
In our faith life, what counts? Is it also a numbers game? Does God use a set of scales? On one side, He places sins of various weights and frequency and on the other the good deeds and temptations rejected. The balance of which decides our ultimate fate for Heaven or Hell. NO! Though being a good or bad person is the popular answer in society to determine if you wear wings or horns.
What counts with God is instead your belief and trust in His Son Jesus Christ. Jesus is the recompense of our sin, meaning He paid the price for our sin when He took them with Him to the cross. He did not weigh them or us to see if we were worthy of His sacrifice, rather He took them all and paid for them.
As we have been examining Hebrews 11 during our Faith Reckoning series, we have been exploring how the faith of Abraham and others was counted as righteousness before God, we have reflected on how our own faith unlocks the free gift of Christ’s righteousness for us. It is not our ability to keep the law, but our faith in Jesus that counts. And through our Faith in Jesus, His law gets written upon our hearts so that we have a greater desire to follow Him than to follow the world around us.
So what counts? Jesus counts and can be counted upon.
Peace,
Burt
